To help you dial it in, Surge Youth uses adjustable arms with a wire-core interior plus customizable nose pads. That adjustability lets you fine-tune how the frame sits so you can move freely without constantly re-seating your sunglasses. For vision, Detour’s HiFi high-contrast lenses are designed to sharpen your surroundings, enhance colors, and define details—useful when you need to read terrain, track a ball, or stay locked in on the road or trail.
Surge Youth is ANSI Z87+ certified, with ANSI Z87+ safety ratings and impact protection. Detour also explains that the Surge line uses PC (polycarbonate) lenses, described as a huge upgrade over traditional TAC lenses, because the lens material is injected around the Hi-Fi (high contrast) filter to prevent layers from separating (a problem they note can happen in humid, high temperature locations or if you store sunglasses in your car).
To keep lenses clearer with less effort, the oleophobic lens coating adds a barrier that makes wiping smudges effortless and helps extend lens life, while the hydrophobic coating repels water to keep your vision clear and reduce the need to wipe lenses dry.
