Detour’s Surge line uses PC (polycarbonate) lenses, described as a huge upgrade over traditional TAC lenses. The lens material is injected around the Hi-Fi (high contrast) filter to prevent layers from separating, which Detour notes can be common in humid high temperature locations or if you store your sunglasses in your car. For day-to-day clarity, an oleophobic lens coating adds a barrier that makes wiping smudges effortless and helps extend lens life. A hydrophobic coating repels water to keep your vision clear and reduce the need to wipe your lenses dry. Sweat proof, oil proof coatings help your lenses handle real use without constant cleanup.
